Spatial Harvest Sequence (SHS)
- 10 year scope.
- Detailed listing and mapping of stands selected for harvest to:
  - meet the Annual Allowable Cut (level of harvest that does not exceed the growth of the forest) and
  - provide for FMP objectives, such as old forest retention, watershed protection, and landscape and ecosystem management.
- Introduced with the FMP.

General Development Plan (GDP)
- Five-year scope.
- Starts to detail harvest areas and main road construction.

Conservation Areas Network Project

We recognize the value of parks and special management areas to our 6.4 million-hectare Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area. Over the two decades, we have participated in provincial land-use planning activities that identified candidate protected areas. For example, during the Special Places 2000 process led by the Government of Alberta, we actively promoted several candidate protection areas, including the Leige River watershed. As well, under the provincial government’s Land-use Framework, the Lower Athabasca Regional Planning (LARP) process identified new park lands, including the Dillon River Wildland Park and the proposed expansion to Gipsy Gordon Park, both of which were removed from our FMA area with our support in 2012.

Collectively, these areas establish a conservation network that supports wildlife and recreation, as well as an opportunity for research and monitoring in these ecological benchmarks.

In 2017, we started the Conservation Areas Network Project in collaboration with Mistik Management Ltd., Ducks Unlimited Canada (Boreal Program) and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS, Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan Chapters). The objective of the project is to update our conservation area planning information and further our participation in conservation initiatives. As a first step, the project team has completed a peer-reviewed Protected Areas Gap Analysis within an identified study area.
