Our bio-methanol refinery is the first of its kind in the world. Al-Pac’s world-class facility has the capacity to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes of bio-methanol annually derived 100 percent from our hardwood trees.
Bio-methanol, named ‘bio’ for its origins from a renewable source, is chemically the same as conventional methanol. One of the advantages of bio-methanol is it reduces fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional methanol. It is a clear liquid chemical that is water-soluble and biodegradable and is a member of the organic chemicals group, alcohols.
Our bio-methanol is a versatile ingredient that can be used to manufacture items such as plastics, solvents, dyes, glues, polyester and other high-value products. We commercially sell our bio-methanol for a variety of uses.
Bio-methanol can help accelerate a more widespread use of sustainable biofuels, and it can be a chemical building block used as a raw material for other bio-based materials and ingredients. It’s environmentally friendly and an attractive alternative energy source for powering vehicles and boats, and residential uses. At Al-Pac we continually investigate future benefits for this exciting product.
