The successful candidate is responsible for the safe operation of the Chemical Recovery and Utility Plant. This role is also responsible for operating and maintaining equipment and machinery such as turbines, boilers, generators, stationary engines, and auxiliary equipment to generate electrical power, and to provide heat, light, refrigeration and other utility services for all Al-Pac buildings, equipment and work sites. This role also operates a recovery boiler, lime kiln, slaker, and causticizers that support the chemical recovery operations.

- Operate complex equipment and machines, adjusting diverse variables to achieve the best possible outcomes in terms of quality and productivity.
- Operate and service building/plant (e.g., boilers, water softeners, chillers, HVAC, automation systems, fire systems, call systems, emergency power) within code requirements.
- Monitor and inspect process equipment, computer terminals, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow and detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions to make sure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency.
- Perform daily boiler chemical tests to calculate impurities, adding chemicals as necessary.
- Complete daily checks on field equipment as part of operator basic care program.
- Maintains and repairs boilers and ventilation units (e.g., shutdown, boiler inspection, replace parts).
- Maintains and services hot water systems (e.g., pumps, converters, heat reclamation system, piping)
- Monitor and maintain the pneumatic control system.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on all plant/energy centre equipment and systems, as per the preventative maintenance program.
- Identify any maintenance requirements and put in malfunction reports as required.
- Troubleshoot basic technical or operational problems by applying previously defined solutions.
- Collect samples as required to test quality of liquor and verify online instrumentation.
Role Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates who reside in or near Al-Pac’s Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area.
- Committed to completing the ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering ticket within one year.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to be a critical thinker, analyzing situations and using logic to address issues.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and basic knowledge of root cause analysis.
- Good problem-solving skills and is mechanically incline.
- Capable of reading and understanding complex instructions.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Other
- General physical activities include climbing, lifting, handling materials, unplugging equipment, chemical lines or equipment, turning valves, using wash up hoses and small tools.
- These activities include working in various conditions.

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Casual Health & Security Advisor to work out of our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. Reporting to the Health and Security (HSS) Manager, this position is responsible for providing ongoing medical and emergency response support for the organization. This role provides immediate response and treatment for team member medical incidents and/or fire and hazmat emergencies, they participate in workplace safety investigations, conduct various testing, provide safety orientations, and conduct safety and security inspections and observations on shift.

Role Responsibilities
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Interact daily with team members and contractors to ensure HSS compliance. Participate in Emergency Response as a shift leader on the mill emergency response team. Monitor fire systems and perform first aid care as needed.
- Investigation & Inspection:
- Participate and provide HSS support in incident / accident investigations. Provide expertise on hazard recognition and coach others in performing field level hazard assessments and field audits. Assist to maintain medical and rescue equipment.
- Testing:
- Administer pre-employment drug and alcohol screen testing and post-incident and drug and alcohol testing. Conduct routine health assessments. Assist with occupational hygiene compliance testing within the mill, including but not limited to gas detection, mask fit testing and hazard assessments.
- Security:
- Participate in inspections/assessments and audits and observe activities and monitor the physical security of the Mill-Site.
Role Requirements
- 3 years’ experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), or Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) licensed with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
- Candidates with current Advanced First Aid (AFA) certificate or a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta may also be considered.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Strong computer skills.
- Experience working in an industrial setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Other
- Firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous materials and security experience an asset.
- Knowledge of Alberta OH&S and regulatory compliance requirements
- Aptitude with HSS related technology and applications, Microsoft office
- Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments
- Must be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills

Role Requirements
- Must be an active registered nurse or registered as an Advanced Care Paramedic within the province of Alberta.
- 5+ years progressive experience in a similar role is required.
- Experience in occupational health nursing (OHN) or OHN certificate is an asset.
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)certifications are considered assets.
- Preference given to those with current Emergency room/Emergency response experience.
- Must be in good standing with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) / Association and College of Paramedics (ACOP).
- Strong computer skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Journeyman Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Journeyperson Electrical/Instrumentation Technician to work out of our mill site near Athabasca, Alberta. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing measuring and control devices used in all Al-Pac industrial and production processing including a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices.
Under the electrical scope, this role is also responsible for performing a wide range of electrical work in construction, buildings, office, and plant areas. They are also responsible for covering the installation and maintenance of a wide range of industrial electrical and instrument equipment, repair of generators, high voltage switch gear, transformers repair and replacement, nuclear instrument isolation and safety, distributors, and production equipment.
This role operates on a shift schedule with a mixture of days and nights.

Role Responsibilities
Instrumentation
- Operate complex machines and systems, adjusting processes to optimize quality and productivity.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation or electronic equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Inspect instrumentation systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Provide operational support by performing a range of route activities using existing systems and protocols.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards.
Electrical
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Demonstrate the ability to cover shift maintenance calls, responding to any and all electrical troubleshooting inquiries mill wide.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Maintain and troubleshoot high voltage switch gear and power distribution specialized equipment.
- Maintenance of large Portal Cranes, control and safety devices while working from heights.
- Request any follow up work after conducting repairs or inspections on systems or assets to improve reliability, job procedures and productivity or reduce cost.
- Maintain and service nuclear level and flow instruments in a safe manner.
- Maintain and service pneumatic controls and field devices. Understand Analyzers for preventive and troubleshooting tasks.
- Participate in the planning and executing of electrical installations.
- Ensure all mandatory safety documentation is completed, hazard assessments are performed including all required learning sign offs. Follow safety protocols at all times and ensure workspace is clear and hazards are controlled.
Role Requirements
- Active Alberta-certified Journeyperson certificate in both Electrical and Instrumentation required.
- 5 – 7+ years’ experience in manufacturing/forestry maintenance and service or performing other electrical and instrumentation related duties including machinery and equipment installation, repair and maintenance.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) an asset.
- Ability to work shift work.
- Holder of a valid Class 5 License and ability to provide a clear drivers’ abstract.
Other
- Ability to multitask and troubleshoot.
- The ability to read and understand complex instructions.
- Ability to work indoors (high temperature) and outdoors (sub-zero temperatures) at physically demanding tasks that often require climbing and lifting or moving heavy items.
