Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and supportive team players for our 2026 Woodlands Summer Student Program.
As part of Al-Pac’s Successional Strategy, the Woodlands Summer Student Program is designed to develop the next generation of professionals while rewarding the students with meaningful work, competitive pay and the opportunity to learn from industry professionals through hands-on experience.
These positions are based at the mill site near Boyle, AB and will begin in May until August 2026. Typically, these roles operate Monday-Thursday, working ten (10) hours per day.
We are actively recruiting summer students in the following areas:
- Woodlands Planning
- Silviculture
- Woodlands Operations
Role Responsibilities:
Woodlands Planning:
- Complete field quality control audits of layout activities completed by third party consultants, including block and road layout
- Complete stream assessments to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Collect and summarize relevant field data for the purposes of creating harvest areas
- Support the planning department with the completion of pre-harvest and forest harvest plans and amendments
Woodlands Silviculture:
- Access checks for summer tree plant
- Tree plant supervision including quality control, program tracking and reporting
- Vegetation management program supervision
Woodlands Operations:
- Assist in the supervision and quality control of:
- Harvest operations – Safety inspections, log quality, utilization standards, heavy equipment productivity studies, scheduling, environmental monitoring and contractor payment calculations
- Road construction and reclamation
- Load and haul operations – Scheduling and Supervision
Skills/Prerequisites:
- Eligible candidates must be returning to a recognized post-secondary forestry/environmental program after summer of employment or recently graduated from a forestry program in the same year of summer student employment.
- Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving history
- Detail oriented and good communication skills
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to self-development
- Excellent interpersonal skills and team oriented
Working Conditions:
- In all positions, frequent travel required in the Forest Management Agreement Area (FMA) needing extended working hours or days. Remote, overnight stays are required, the frequency of which varies over the course of the year, but typically on a weekly / bi-weekly basis.
- General orientation, including drug and alcohol testing for safety sensitive positions, will be completed on the first day of employment.

Journeyman Electrician

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of electrical work in construction, buildings, office, and plant areas. They are also responsible for covering the installation and maintenance of a wide range of industrial electrical and instrument equipment, repair of generators, high voltage switch gear, transformers repair and replacement, nuclear instrument isolation and safety, distributors, and production equipment. Role Responsibilities
- Operate complex machines and systems, adjusting processes to optimize quality and productivity. Also responsible for generating solutions to complex inefficiencies.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Demonstrate the ability to cover shift maintenance calls, responding to any and all electrical troubleshooting inquiries mill wide.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Maintain and troubleshoot high voltage switch gear and power distribution specialized equipment.
- Maintenance of large Portal Cranes, control and safety devices while working from heights.
- Request any follow up work after conducting repairs or inspections on systems or assets to improve reliability, job procedures and productivity or reduce costs.
- Maintain and service nuclear level and flow instruments in a safe manner.
- Maintain and service pneumatic controls and field devices.
- Understand Analyzers for preventive and troubleshooting tasks.
- Participate in the planning and executing of electrical installations.
- Provide operational support by performing a range of route activities using existing systems and protocols.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or superintendent for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
- Ensure all mandatory safety documentation is completed, hazard assessments are performed including all required learning sign offs. Follow safety protocols at all times and ensure workspace is clear and hazards are controlled.
Role Requirements
- Alberta-certified journeyperson.
- Holds a recognized electrical trade certificate.
- 5 – 7+ years’ experience in manufacturing/forestry maintenance and service, or performing other electrical related duties including machinery and equipment installation, repair and maintenance.
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) an asset.
Other
- Ability to prioritize, manage time well, multitask and troubleshoot.
- The ability to read and understand complex instructions.
- Ability to work indoors (high temperature) and outdoors (sub-zero temperatures) at physically demanding tasks that often require climbing and lifting or moving heavy items.

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Manager, Government Relations to join our team in either our St. Albert office or mill site in Athabasca, Alberta.
Reporting to the Director, Stakeholder Relations & Sustainability (SRS), the Manager will lead Al-Pac’s government relations efforts by developing and executing strategies that support enterprise-wide objectives. This includes building strong relationships with federal and provincial governments, representing Al-Pac in meetings, events, and industry forums, and helping shape policy discussions that advance sustainable forest sector development.
Internally, the Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to monitor and influence the evolving political and regulatory landscape, ensuring Al-Pac’s interests are effectively represented and aligned with its long-term business priorities.
Responsibilities
- Government Relations: Lead strategic engagement and advocacy with federal and provincial governments by developing and executing government relations strategies aligned with Al-Pac’s enterprise-wide priorities. Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, government staff, and key stakeholders. Represent Al-Pac at meetings, industry events, and public forums. Prepare advocacy materials including briefings, speaking notes, position papers, and correspondence. Provide informed recommendations through research and timely political analysis.
- Operational Excellence: Monitor and report on the performance of the government relations function, setting clear objectives and ensuring accountability. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance effectiveness and efficiency, align activities with KPIs, and mitigate operational risks. Collaborate across departments to align plans and resources, and ensure compliance with Al-Pac’s safety standards.
- Data Analysis, Reporting, & Compliance: Research, analyze, and prepare reports, presentations, and supporting materials. Ensure all activities meet internal policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. Provide guidance on compliance with lobbying regulations and oversee related reporting.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree, preferably in Political Science, Business, Public Policy, Public Administration, other social sciences, or a related field is required.
- Minimum 7 years’ professional experience in a corporate setting, preferably in the forestry or natural resource development sectors, is required.
- Strong network of relationships with government representatives and a deep understanding of federal and provincial legislative and regulatory processes.
- Knowledge of the current political landscape and key issues affecting the forestry and forest products manufacturing sector.
- Familiarity with industry-specific policy and regulatory matters, including lobbying standards and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively—verbally, in writing, and through presentations—across diverse audiences.

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Manager, Sustainability to work out of our St. Albert office or Mill Site in Athabasca, Alberta.
Reporting to the Director, Stakeholder Relations & Sustainability (SRS), the Manager, Sustainability is accountable for leading the Sustainability business unit and implementing Al-Pac’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework. This includes driving cross-functional integration of sustainability goals, leading ESG reporting and compliance, managing responsible sourcing and operations certifications and ratings, and supporting ecology-based initiatives that align with Al-Pac’s operational and long-term strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- People Leadership: Lead a team of professionals across multiple locations, fostering a culture of safety, wellbeing, growth, and continuous improvement. Set clear goals, work plans, and KPIs, and oversee daily operations. Manage the business unit’s budget in alignment with Al-Pac policies.
- Operational Excellence: Drive performance within the Sustainability team by setting clear objectives, aligning KPIs, and ensuring accountability. Support internal and external audits, manage regulatory and certification compliance, and lead continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with other teams to align resources and plans with broader organizational goals, while identifying and mitigating risks.
- ESG Framework & Implementation: Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of Al-Pac’s ESG framework. Work with business areas across the organization to integrate ESG priorities into operational decision-making and support departments in applying sustainability practices. Stay ahead of emerging issues and evolving standards and recommend appropriate responses.
- Compliance, Monitoring & Reporting: Support compliance with enterprise certifications and ratings (e.g., FSC®, ISO 9001 & 14001, Ecovadis, C-TPAT), including managing audits, assessments, and recommend system improvements. Lead internal and external reporting, manage sustainability data, and monitor performance against KPIs. Ensure adherence to all relevant policies and disclosure requirements.
- Environmental Stewardship: Collaborate with other business areas on initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, including biodiversity, ecosystem-based management, decarbonization, and responsible sourcing and operations.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Collaborate with business areas to support ESG framework execution and achieve sustainability objectives. Develop and deliver reports, briefings, and other materials. Collaborate with Sales to communicate Al-Pac’s sustainability performance to customers, and contribute to brand-related communications initiatives.
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in a related field is required.
- Minimum 7 years’ professional experience in a sustainability or environmental management role with a focus on implementation, preferably in the forest or natural resource development sectors, is required.
- Demonstrated leadership experience supporting change initiatives and progressing sustainability objectives, preferably in an industry setting.
- Management, consulting, and/or auditing experience in progressive roles associated with sustainability programs, standards, certifications, and/or ESG frameworks.
- Strong understanding of ESG reporting and disclosure standards, frameworks, requirements, and best practices, including but not limited to, IFRS Sustainability Standards 1 & 2, GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets Initiative, The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
- Knowledge of current sustainability-related issues, such as biodiversity, ecosystem-based management, and decarbonization, and emerging issues and regulatory reporting requirements, and global responsible supply chain initiatives.
- Understanding of sustainability and responsible operations certifications and ratings, such as Forest Stewardship Council®, ISO, and Ecovadis.
- Ability to collaborate and engage with stakeholders and the public with professionalism, tact, discretion, good judgment, and trust.
- Strong communicator with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Role Responsibilities
- Learning & Development Program
- Audit, assess and design learning programs to meet the requirements of a specified curriculum or to fill gaps in existing programs.
- develop and maintain relevant content and high-quality training resources to ensure high levels of learner engagement and achievement of learning outcomes.
- Deliver training sessions and evaluating the achievement of intended learning outcomes.
- Evaluate and update in-house safety training programs, ensure compliance with current OH&S legislation.
- Lead DATS program administration.
- Develop and maintain the HSS training matrix
- Learning Needs Analysis
- Lead and support the identification of learning needs by analysing performance and competence data. Identify gaps in relation to required levels; outline priorities for Learning and Development interventions.
- Conduct analysis of performance and competence data to identify gaps in health, safety, and security capabilities.
- Develop strategies and solutions to address learning gaps through targeted interventions.
- Audit & Assurance
- Lead the planning and execution of annual COR internal and external audits.
- Conduct internal HSS assurance and compliance audits across all departments, including documentation reviews and field verifications.
- Recommend and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) based on audit findings
- Contractor Compliance
- Administer and oversee ComplyWorks contractor management system to ensure vendor compliance with Alberta-Pacific HSS requirements.
- Verify that contractor training, insurance, and safety documentation are current and aligned with internal standards and COR protocols.
- Act as primary liaison between internal stakeholders and contractors for compliance-related concerns.
- Document Preparation & Data Management
- Organize and prepare complex documents using a variety of computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Also responsible for gathering and summarizing data for leadership reports.
- Provide insights and recommendations through dashboards and monthly/quarterly metrics reporting.
- Carry out a wide range of training and compliance data processing tasks and analysis as required to assess and update programs or provide coaching and guidance on process changes as needed.
- Development Centre Design and Delivery
- Assess and redesign pre-existing exercises and competency measurements and development planning processes and tools. Draft new content as required.
- Facilitate Third-Party Vendor and Training
- Coordinates, organizes, and schedules third-party vendors when required to support training needs that have been identified.
- Lead Annual COR Audit Activities
- Internal and External audits.
- Perform internal safety and training compliance audits.
- Personal Capability Building
- Maintaining familiarity with legislated requirements and develop any skill change requirements to continually maintain competency level and qualifications.
- Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
- Policy and System Compliance
- Ensure all activities align with the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation, and Code, and internal HSS standards.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with HSS Management Systems, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Plans and Aligns
- Plans and prioritizes work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. Aligns work requirements with relevant workgroups.
Role Requirements
- University degree in a related field (OHS, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental Health, Adult Education) is required. An equivalency of a related two-year diploma plus five years of recent related experience will be considered.
- Adult Education certification is considered an asset.
- Occupational Health & Safety certificate is considered an asset.
- 5-7 years working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code and Act, and related legislation is required.
- Manufacturing facility experience is required.
- CRSP or other safety designation is an asset.
- Experience managing health and safety training in the forestry/manufacturing sectors is preferred.
- Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
- Forestry and/or mill background or experience would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Other
