Certifications

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is an international, non-profit, membership-based organization with a mission to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Alongside Indigenous peoples, consumers, environmental and social organizations, industry and the public, they promote responsible forests and products. Since opening in 1993, we take pride in maintaining responsible environmental, social and economic approaches to our forest management practices. Our efforts were validated in September 2005, when we achieved third-party FSC certification. We continue our commitment to maintaining the standards and practicing responsible forest management today. Our FSC Forest Management certificate is audited annually to assure our forestry practices adhere to FSC’s standards.

In 2019, we changed our Forest Management certification to a FSC Forest Management Group Certificate, when our largest embedded quota holder, Northland Forest Products Ltd. (NFPL), achieved Forest Stewardship Council® certification (FSC® C022642).

In 2020, we transitioned to the new FSC National Forest Stewardship Standard of Canada. FSC forest management audits evaluate our conformance to rigorous forest management standards and highlight areas in which we can make improvements. To view the annual Public Summary Reports, click here.

Today, the certification of over 5.9 million hectares (14.5 million acres) of our Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area represents the largest contiguous FSC-certified forest in the world.
