Certifications

Committed to responsible operations at our mill site and in our Forest Management Agreement area, we hold ourselves to  high environmental and quality standards.

Our certifications reflect our efforts to maintain responsible practices while providing high-quality products to our customers, and provide third-party verification that our products and management systems meet the following international standards:

  • Forest Stewardship Council®

    Forest Stewardship Council®

We take pride in our responsible forest management practices. Our efforts were validated in September 2005 when we achieved Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification, and we maintain our commitment to responsible forest management and meeting FSC®’s rigorous certification standards today. Our FSC® Policy of Commitment can be viewed here.

FSC® is an international, non-profit, membership-based organization with a mission to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. Alongside Indigenous Peoples, consumers, environmental and social organizations, industry and the public, they promote responsible forests and products.

Today, our FSC® certification covers approximately 5.9 million hectares (14.5 million acres) of our Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area, making it the largest contiguous FSC®-certified forest in the world.

In 2019, our certification changed from a FSC® Forest Management Certificate to an FSC® Forest Management Group Certificate when our largest embedded quota holder, Northland Forest Products Ltd. (NFPL), achieved FSC® certification (FSC® C022642) that year. In 2020, we transitioned to the new FSC® National Forest Stewardship Standard of Canada.

Our FSC® Forest Management Group Certificate is audited annually to assure our forestry practices adhere to FSC’s standards. Conducted by an independent third-party, these audits evaluate our conformance to FSC®’s forest management standards and highlight areas where we can make improvements.

More information on FSC®, including their principles and criteria, is available on the FSC® Canada website.
